The outdoor essentials make up the core gear needed for any outdoor adventure. Not all of the gear will be used on every outing but when placed in a high risk situation, the gear you pack may very well save your life. Before any outdoor trip, consider stocking your pack with the following:
- Pocketknife\multi-tool – Used for cutting cord, bandages and equipment repairs
- First-aid kit – Treat scratches, blisters and other minor injuries.
- Extra clothing – Weather conditions can quickly change to extreme conditions
- Rain gear – Provides protection from wet conditions and can be used as an extra layer
- Water Bottle – Should be lightweight and correctly sized for the outing
- Flashlight – Incase your trip takes longer than expected
- Extra Food – Always carry a little more than you need for the planned trip
- Waterproof matches/fire starter – Provides best chance for survival in cold weather
- Sun Protection – Very common injury but rarely thought about in the outdoors
- Map and Compass – Will help you find your way if lost in the backcountry
